A delegation of Highwood officials recently traveled to Pievepelago, Italy, where they were warmly welcomed by local leaders including Mayor Corrado Ferroni, Deputy Mayor Davide Fiorenza, and Cultural Director Livio Migliori.
Strong historical ties connect our two communities, rooted in early 20th-century immigration from Italy’s Apennine region to the Lake Michigan shoreline. Today, more than 5,000 people of Modenese origin and their descendants are said to live in the Highwood and Highland Park area.
This meaningful visit offered an opportunity to explore shared heritage, discuss ideas for cultural and community exchanges, and experience the natural and historical richness of the region.
