Responding to the growing need in our community, and the recent reduction in Food Stamp benefits, Moraine Township will expand its Food Pantry hours and service, opening one evening a week to make our pantry more readily available to working families.
The Township is keenly aware of the impact of the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, a/k/a Food Stamps) benefit reduction to our most vulnerable families. In response, the Township is now allowing families who are prequalified for the federal school free & reduced lunch program to access our Food Pantry twice a month instead of only once.
The Food Pantry will be available to Moraine Township residents on Thursday evenings until 7:00 p.m. for the remainder of 2013 (except for holidays). Families not able to visit the pantry during any of the times listed below are invited to call at 847-432-3240 so we can make other arrangements for alternate times now, and to help us determine Food Pantry hours in the future to make our resources more easily available to our residents.
New Moraine Township Food Pantry hours:
Tuesday 9:00 a.m. – noon; 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Thursday 9:00 a.m. – noon; 1:00 - 7:00 p.m.
“Most of the working families eligible for Township services are paid twice monthly, and need help stretching their resources to the next paycheck,” observes Township Clerk Gail Feiger Brown, “and these are the residents our Township is here to serve.”
Residents who would like to help the Township in this effort are welcome to bring contributions of unexpired, non-perishable food to our office at 777 Central Avenue, Highland Park Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monetary contributions to the Township’s Community Chest are also gratefully accepted, and will help defray the cost of adding protein to the additional food bags we are making available to our residents.
