The following is an update on the City of Highwood snow removal response. The City is working hard to maintain passable streets and sidewalks; however, another 5-10 inches of snow may be on the way in the next 32 hours. The temperatures are low enough that salt is having little effect, and the recent large snowfalls leave little room on the streets and virtually no room on the sidewalks to put the snow. Our efforts will be focused on keeping major routes passable and smaller roadways accessible. Due to the duration, we will need to stagger trucks and drivers to ensure they get sufficient rest and operate safely. We will not focus on cleanup/edging until we are caught up on the roadways, which will likely lead to some calls and questions.
The sidewalk plow is also out and operating where possible - some areas are inaccessible due to the amount of previous snow and the lack of area to put anything else. Residents are encouraged to helped where possible; we will not be issuing notifications, warnings or citations for not clearing as the conditions have been and will continue to be dangerous.
