The City of Highwood will begin its annual hydrant flushing program the week of November 3. Work will typically take place between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Temporary signs will be posted in active flushing areas.
Hydrant flushing helps maintain water quality by clearing out sediment from the water mains. During this process, residents may notice brief periods of low water pressure or discolored water. While the water remains safe to drink, we recommend avoiding laundry until water runs clear.
If discoloration occurs:
Run cold water until it clears
Avoid using hot water to prevent sediment from entering your water heater
Check faucet and washer screens for debris if pressure seems low
