[ARCHIVED] SWALCO to Host 3 Household Hazardous Waste Events in May

Two events will be held at the Gurnee SWALCO site. The first on Saturday, May 9th and the second on Tuesday, May 23rd.
Appointments are required for these events.

Items you can bring to these collections include: CFL bulbs, unwanted prescription, over-the-counter medicines and supplements (people and pet), household cleaners, gasoline, garden chemicals, pesticides, oil-based paints (NO LATEX) and varnishes, as well as other household chemicals. For a more detailed list visit SWALCO's HCW Website www.swalco.org APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED for Household Chemical Waste Events located at our Gurnee Facility to ensure safety & efficency. Collections are for residential waste only. No business waste will be accepted. All SWALCO HCW Collection Events are FREE for Illinois residents ONLY.

The third event is a mobile event held on May 16th at the Vernon Hills Metra Lot from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, no appointment necessary.

Accepted Materials: Aerosol Products, Antifreeze & Motor Oil, Fertilizers, Herbicides, Pesticides, Fluorescent Light Bulbs/CFLs, Furniture Stripper & Varnishes, Gasoline & Kerosene, Household Batteries (Lithium & Rechargeable only), Household Cleaners, Oil-Based Paints & Paint Removers, Prescription and over-the counter medicines and supplements (people & pet) - NO DEA Controlled Substances, Not Accepted: Latex paint, DEA Controlled substances, business wastes, farm chemicals, propane tanks, lead-acid and alkaline batteries, explosives, medical or biohazard wastes, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and household electronics. HCW collections sponsored by SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County) are for Illinois residents only.
