[ARCHIVED] Highwood Ave Cross Streets become Two-Way to Accommodate Traffic Needs

In order to accommodate the construction traffic patterns due to Highwood Avenue being a one-way street, going east, the cross streets of Evolution, 200 block of S. Central, Oak Terrace, Palmer, Everts, and Jeffreys have been opened to allow for two-way traffic. Grove and High Street will remain open as two-way streets as well during the construction. As the City of Highwood and their contractor began construction on Highwood and North Avenue, we found that additional traffic pattern changes were needed to ensure residents could safely and easily leave their homes. Specifically, several ‘One Way’ streets needed to be changed to allow traffic in either direction as large trucks and equipment blocked their only road access. As some of these streets are narrow, please drive slowly and cautiously in case of oncoming traffic.

Staff and the construction workers would both like to thank you for your patience and cooperation so far – residents have been incredibly helpful in working with us to get these projects completed.
