[ARCHIVED] Request for Proposals for Historical Fire Department Development Opportunity

HIGHWOOD, IL (JUNE 1, 2016) – The City of Highwood is excited to announce the beginning of the process to determine the next occupant of the Fire Station property at 428 Green Bay Road. The City is now able to explore options for the historic property after Highwood voters passed a recent referendum allowing Highwood to partner with Highland Park for emergency services.

The City of Highwood has published a Request for Proposal (RFP), which can be viewed on their website at www.cityofhighwood.org, that outlines information on the City of Highwood development goals and includes a layout of the fire station building. Proposals are due by September 1, 2016.

“Since the referendum, our staff has received numerous inquiries on the disposition of the fire station property and many creative ideas on how to best utilize the space,” said City Manager Scott Coren.
“Issuing this Request for Proposals will allow the City of Highwood to provide information to a variety of interested parties and begin a process for the City Council and community to decide the best use for the historic property.”

Proposals are expected to provide a narrative on the proposed use as well as address other questions, such as parking requirements. After September 1, 2016, staff will review the proposals submitted with the City Council and determine the next steps, which could include interviewing top proposals and negotiating terms.

“Our community came together to overwhelming approve a great solution for delivering fire safety to Highwood. We now look forward to the next step and working with our neighbors again to find a great partner to further develop this centrally located and historic property,” said Mayor Charles Pecaro.
