[ARCHIVED] Highland Park Fire Department Announces- 2017 Citizen Fire Academy

Highland Park Fire Department announced today that the department is hosting its second Citizen Fire Academy. The Citizen Fire Academy affords the opportunity for members of the City of Highland Park and Highwood to participate in an 8 week program beginning on Thursday September 7, 2017 and ends with a formal graduation on Thursday October 26, 2017. The Citizen Fire Academy meets on Thursday nights from 6:30-9:30PM and the participants experience a taste of the jobs and tasks that firefighters perform on a daily basis.

The topics covered are:
  • Introduction to Highland Park Fire Department and the Fire Service, Fire Prevention, Fire Investigations, Public Education, and tour of The Dispatch Center
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus
  • Engine and Truck Company Operations
  • Vehicle Extrication
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Special Teams Night (Dive, Technical Rescues, and Hazardous Materials)
  • Live Fire Training
