GREAT LAKES TRAINING DIVISION HOSTS 9/11 REMEMBRANCE RUN
Public invited to run with the soldiers at
8 a.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2017
HIGHWOOD, IL (SEPTEMBER 10, 2017) – The
Great Lakes Training Division is hosting the Fort Sheridan 9/11 5K Remembrance Formation Run Challenge starting at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 10 to honor those who suffered and lost their lives in the unforgettable attacks on September 11, 2001.
The run will begin at 3155 Blackhawk Drive at Building 599 in Fort Sheridan, IL and go through downtown Highwood. While all military will be in uniform, the public is encouraged to wear any red, white and blue running apparel.
“This is a day for remembrance, resolve and renewal as we come together to remember the nearly 3,000 Americans who did not return home to their families after the tragedy, as well as those members of our armed forces who served in conflict since,” said Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Coleman.
In attendance will be members of
Highwood Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Great Lakes Naval Station,
Kids Rank, Color Guard, Highwood Boy/Girl Scouts, as well as local Highwood and Highland Park residents and businesses.
Parking will be available off-site at the
Highwood Metra Station for all non-Department of Defense personnel. All vehicles will be subject to inspection and all adult guests will be required to show picture ID.
