Recycle More with the Hefty ReNew Program
The City of Highwood is pleased to introduce a new recycling program that helps residents keep more waste out of landfills. The Hefty ReNew program allows households to collect hard‑to‑recycle plastics so they can be turned into useful products like park benches, composite lumber, and building materials.

Items You Can Recycle with Hefty ReNew
Many everyday items that cannot be placed in your regular recycling cart – such as Styrofoam, chip bags, candy wrappers, and plastic utensils – can now be collected using Hefty ReNew orange bags and processed properly. For a complete guide to all items accepted through the program, visit: www.hefty.com/hefty-renew/accepted-items

How the Program Works

  1. Purchase Hefty ReNew orange bags at Jewel-Osco, Target, Walmart, or other local retailer.
  2. Fill the bag with accepted hard‑to‑recycle plastics.
  3. Tie it securely and place it inside your regular recycling cart along with your loose recyclables.
  4. LRS collects the bags on Wednesdays, along with your regular recycling and waste.

The Hefty ReNew program is designed to supplement your regular recycling, not replace it.

Free Starter Kits Available
